Why ALBA

Aging is complicated because life is complicated.

A change in one area can affect many others. Health, independence, living arrangements, finances, relationships, personal priorities, and available support don't exist separately from one another.

Yet the questions that arise with aging often lead into different systems, services, and areas of expertise.

ALBA was created for the space between those pieces.

A place to understand the broader picture before assuming what the answer should be.

The perspective behind ALBA

Sometimes the question underneath the question matters most.

What first appears to be a question about living arrangements may also involve safety, family dynamics, finances, changing abilities, available support, or what someone is willing to consider.

And sometimes the most useful first step isn't finding a service or making a decision.

It's understanding the situation well enough to recognize what deserves attention, what can wait, and what possibilities are worth exploring.

That broader perspective is central to how ALBA works.

The approach

Start with the person.

There is no universal right answer to aging-related decisions.

People bring different histories, relationships, resources, priorities, values, concerns, and ideas about how they want to live. They may also come to a decision from very different places: ready to make a change, weighing several possibilities, gathering information, uncertain about what makes sense, or simply trying to understand what is happening.

ALBA brings knowledge, perspective, and context to that process without taking ownership of the decisions themselves. There is room to ask questions, become informed, consider different possibilities, think through tradeoffs, take time, change your mind, move forward, or decide that something isn't right for you.

Good guidance should help you understand your choices and become better equipped to make the decisions that are yours to make.

Understanding before direction. Context before conclusions. Guidance without an agenda.

Independent by design

The guidance itself is the service.

ALBA is paid by clients for independent guidance and does not accept referral fees or compensation from senior living communities, care providers, or other services.

ALBA also does not provide guidance as a pathway to selling other services. Whether you choose a resource ALBA identifies, choose something else, take a different direction, or decide not to act, ALBA has no financial stake in that outcome.

That independence allows the guidance to remain focused on your circumstances, priorities, and what may be useful to you.

No referral fees.    No affiliations.    No financial relationships.

The experience behind ALBA

A broad perspective, built over time.

ALBA was founded by Amy Dennis, whose more than 25 years of professional experience have centered on supporting older adults, family caregivers, and families navigating complex systems and life transitions.

Her work across aging and disability services, caregiver support and education, advocacy, community-based programs, and senior living has shaped an approach grounded in understanding the whole person, respecting individual experience and autonomy, and recognizing how past and present circumstances can influence what feels possible now.

That perspective, including a longstanding trauma-informed approach, is part of the foundation on which ALBA was built.
